Specific Needs

Baby Home #1 and Satellite Expansion Facility: 120 children under age 4 (The home of Lise and Vanya)

  • Toys – toys are plentiful, but are dull, cheap plastic, and not much variety. The children's development lags because the environment is not challenging. Rattle toys, balls, cars and trucks, dolls, scoops and pails, molds for sand play.
  • Clothes Items - The kids and workers light up with cheery new clothes donations!
  • Clothes up to and including size 3T. Used items in good condition are wonderful donations. Preferably machine washable to minimize hand-washing.
  • Shirts, pants, dresses, jackets, etc. Anything your kids wear!
  • Pajamas and sleepers, "onesies" - for night use and day-use with the babies
  • Canvas-top tennis shoes are great! Watch for them in the bargain bins...
  • Rubber pants and thick training underwear
  • Overalls
  • Stretch pants and leggings
  • Flannel hats, caps, and scarves - these kids play outside in the freezing cold!
  • Vinyl washable bibs - saves lots of clothes washing
  • Wash rags – pretty simple need, but buying rags is low on their priority list. The ones they use are...well, rags!
  • Walkers – none of the six walkers I saw had wheels. (Walkers without wheels?!)

Vyazemsky Children's Home – 40 children ages 5-16 (Home for Elena, Svetlana, Tamara)

  • School Backpacks – a practical need for the half-mile walk to school.
  • T-shirts, shorts for boys and girls, tights, basically any clothes items from sizes 4 to 18, even up to Adult-Medium!
  • Shoes, boots, and slippers – lots of growing feet!
  • Pencils, pens, school supplies
  • Paper - yes, paper is a scarce item and the quality is poor. Typing paper and construction paper for creative activities.
  • Craft Items – glue, marker pens, colored pencils, etc.
  • PlayDoh – for creative play
  • Sports equipment for outside play
  • Costume jewelry – for dress-up play
  • Feminine hygiene items for the girls

Your Opportunity for Action
I encourage you to consider this opportunity as a way to "Remember to do good and share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased." – Hebrews 13:16. Not only will God be pleased, but there is also an opportunity here to bless many other people.
